Description of Penitrem A:
Appearance:White to off white solid
Penitrem A, a potent neurotoxin, a Penicillium (Penicillium.) Produced by several fungi of the genus, and ion channels and neurotransmitter release has multiple effects. The compound also been reported to inhibit [125I] card law scorpion toxin (ChTX) and bovine aortic smooth muscle cell membrane film in maxi K + channel binding. In addition, Penitrem A has increased the ability of the cerebral cortex electrical activity induced voltage and frequency.
Activity: Penitrem A is a selective blocker of KCa1.1 (high-conductance Ca2+-activated K+, BK) channels. Penitrem A increases the spontaneous release of endogenous GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid), and aspartate.
